Not everyone gets the opportunity to be involved in an internship. Some that do don't necessarily enjoy it either! As I am one of the lucky ones who got the chance to do an internship that was not only enjoyable, but really practical I've complied a To Do List highlighting things you should strive for when you get the opportunity in an internship. To Do List - Be Yourself No matter how fantastic you want yourself to be, stop being dramatic and don't try to hide who y.....read more

It's New Years Eve and naturally my social media feeds are littered with new years resolutions. Now I'm not opposed to resolutions as such, I'm an advocate of any goal setting; In fact I set some resolutions myself last year and achieved the majority of them. What I've been looking at for 2013 though is more about automating activities and building good habits that will contribute to the achievement of goals . Those of you who attended the One Day MBA would remember me talking about "lif.....read more

A Brief History Since 13th century when Luca Pacioli published the first accounting book to the masses, accounting has stayed pretty much the same for hundreds of years. With the introduction of computers, accounting became faster and easier for professional accountants. Nevertheless, it remains conservative and time consuming. It still lacks the essential connections and collaboration between clients, banks and accountants. The question is that whether the new information era would fill.....read more

Dial Tones & Dialogues

By: Elouise Dukalskis
Preface: This blog is an example of inspirational collaboration: the first blog penned in Cirillo Hooper using the tag-team technique. Co-authored by passing a laptop from employee to employee, if it works, it will be a shining example to demonstrate the message of this piece. If not, at least it was fun! Enjoy! - Elouise and Jemma Jemma: So why is it that people always seem to be waiting for an amazing opportunity to fall into their lap? Why are they content to just meander throug.....read more

So you’ve got the client on board with your company, they are happy, your boss is happy and your bank account is happy – living the dream right? Pareto Cost Cutting

By: Chris Hooper
I've been an advocate of the Pareto 80/20 Principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle) which states: Roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Obviously this is a rough generalisation, some times it 30/70 or 10/90 either way it's usually skewed in some manner. Personally I have used it in my studies, my training and in our business processes. This quarter was the first time I have used it in an accounting context and I was impressed with the outcomes. Overhe.....read more

Money Makes The World Go 'Round

By: Elouise Dukalskis
Ever watched Liza Minelli in the film, Cabaret? Having never been in a three way relationship, or lived in Germany during WWII, or trying to make the big time by singing my way through smoky bars, I always found the little jingle “money makes the world go ‘round” to be a statement that held pretty true. If I couldn’t empathise with dear old Liza when it came to relationships, culture, aspirations or environment, at least as a uni student I could understand what it&rsq.....read more

Getting the girl to the alter is probably one of the most rewarding, satisfying and scariest moments of your life (not that I’m speaking from experience thank you very much!) There will be lots of negotiation, a bit of fighting, and ultimately compromise before a ‘happily ever after’. It is exactly the same when dealing with clients, and converting them from pipeline into profit and beyond. The trick is to play the savvy groom; you might allow for the bride’s exte.....read more

“There is one and only one social responsibility of a business... to increase its profits... so long as it stays within the rules of the game" Milton Friedman As a fairly new member of the business world, I'm still trying to get my business savvy on why we do what we do, how we go about doing it, and what makes people successful. So far, I've been clued in on a big hint as to the why: businesses like profit. However, as just a new bubby on the business scene, I've been doi.....read more
